Tottenham were unable to end Martin Jol's spell in charge of the club with a victory as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat to Getafe in the UEFA Cup.
Jol had tendered his resignation before the White Hart Lane encounter after spending almost three years in the post, but all his side's failings this season were on show against the struggling Spanish side.
Getafe are in the La Liga relegation zone after finishing in mid-table last term and reaching the Spanish Cup Final, but they started well against a lack-lustre Spurs side.
However, after dominating the early possession, Getafe surprisingly found themselves behind in the 19th minute when Dimitar Berbatov got on the end of Pascal Chimbonda's cross and set up Jermaine Defoe to nod home from four yards out.
Spurs' defensive susceptibility was on show two minutes later though when Getafe were gifted an equaliser.
The defence stood still as Ruben de la Red flicked Esteban Granero's free-kick past the stranded Radek Cerny.
Berbatov had a goal disallowed before the break while Anthony Gardner had to be stretchered from the pitch with an ankle injury.
The first period had been dire but the second half livened up as news of Jol's resignation began to filter through to the crowd.
Defoe looked Spurs' liveliest player and had several good chances to restore his side's lead while at the other end Juan Albin's deflected shot almost caught Cerny out.
Steed Malbranque had a fierce shot saved and Berbatov headed wide as Spurs stepped up the pace but it was Getafe who grabbed the winner in the 70th minute when Nobrega Braulio steered the ball past Cerny.
Defoe was denied an equaliser in the closing stages but Spurs could not hit back as Jo's tenure ended on a sad note.
