The football was tense reflecting the home side's desire to turn around a dissapointing start to the season.
It was more of the same in the second half. Mido struck the woodwork in the 56th minute.
Pascal Chimbonda had a looping header turned off the line by Luis Boa Morte, then substitute Jermain Defoe just went wide with an effort.
Moritz Volz struck next which required an excellent save by Paul Robinson.
It was all the home side in the closing stages, but the deadlock remained unbroken.
Martin Jol: "We kept a clean sheet and we worked ever so hard, we had 65 per cent of the possession, which is a lot, but we needed more imagination, ways to link up better, and a way to break Fulham down. It was the same last season when Aaron Lennon wasn't there - we needed to find a way and did find a way, but it wasn't easy."
"I felt it was very, very hard for the lads to play a third game in a week and I knew we had to score an early goal. We talked about that before the game and had our plan but it wasn't easy."
"Teemu had a good chance, Mido hit the frame of the goal, Chimbonda had a good header off the line and we could have scored without playing well and then after United, after Prague, we would have had three points on the board.
"I still feel the lads tried everything - Zokora, Chimbonda, Ledley King at the back all did well. We opened up, took a gamble and Fulham had a couple of half-chances. It could have gone like it did against Everton and we didn't want that."
"I felt the defence did better than ever, even against Fulham's counter attacks when we were pushing forward and we were open."
"It's one point and I knew it wasn't going to be easy for us. Fulham had a week's rest, we played in Prague but the players kept going, kept digging in, and kept winning the ball back."
"We had 13 shots, eight off target, six blocked - it's a fine line between success and failure and I think our supporters recognised that we worked hard but they were disappointed with the result, and I was disappointed as well."
"We wanted to win at home after Everton, but we needed to put those chances away."
Mido: "There were always a lot of bodies in the box and I had two chances. The one where I hit the post was from a difficult angle to score and the second one after the cross from Ledley which I didn't expect and didn't really see it coming.
"It was the kind of game where one goal opens it up and then there will be a lot of chances. It was a tough one for us.
"Everyone did their best even though the result was not what we wanted."
