Middlesbrough moved out of the relegation zone after a goalless draw at White Hart Lane today and boss Steve McClaren was frustrated that his team did not get all three points.
Spurs started the game brightly and looked the better team in the opening exchanges as they moved the ball around well.
Paul Konchesky and Stephan Dalmat both shone in the first half as they terrorised the visitors during the first half.
The visitors hit a purple patch either side of half time and Kasey Keller tipped scorching drives from Szillard Nemeth and Boudewijn Zenden either side of the break.
David Pleat was concerned enough at the way in which Middlesbrough started to dominate the game that he left his seat in the stands and came down to the dugout to bark instructions at his players.
As the half went on Gaizka Mendieta started to run the game and was at the heart of everything that Middlesbrough did.
Mendieta, 29, tested Keller on the hour when his free-kick looked to be heading into the top corner but the American managed to get his fingers to the ball and tip it over the bar.
Both managers looked to change things around in the dying minutes and introduced fresh legs.
Helder Postiga almost snatched a winner at the death when he picked up a measured through ball just inside the box but he fired the ball straight at Mark Schwarzer.
Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren was disappointed that he did not get all three points here: "I thought that we were the best team today without a shadow of doubt," he said afterwards.
"There is a lot of frustration at the moment from the players that we didn't win. All we are lacking is a bit of luck.'' Tottenham boss David Pleat said: "It is all about balance and consistency, a month ago we would have lost that game. I am not interested in the league only in performances and consistency.''
