All the talk of a Spurs revival and of a crisis at Fulham was turned on its head as the home side were given a lesson in counter-attacking football.
"I am delighted with the result," said Coleman. "To be honest I would have been happy to have come away from here with a 0-0 draw."
Chances were scarce in a tight first half but it was Fulham who went ahead through Barry Hayles midway through the half.
Hayles picked up a great throughball by Lee Clark and twisted and turned inside the box to create enough space to shoot.
The Fulham striker placed the ball wide of Kasey Keller and into the bottom corner from just inside the box.
Spurs could have gone into the break level had Ledley King not hit his close-range shot straight at Edwin van der Sar after collecting a Stephen Carr corner.
Fulham extended their lead through the impressive Hayles who caught Dean Richards in possession 30 yards from his goal.
Hayles scored with a thumping drive from 12 yards just after the hour.
Spurs came close themselves on a number of occasions but it was poor finishing which cost them the game.
"We played below standard today," said Glenn Hoddle. "Fulham were a better team today and we were a yard short."
Both Frederic Kanoute and Helder Postiga showed promise and both had chances to bring Spurs back into the game.
The day belonged to Fulham though and they finished the rout with a superb team goal.
The impressive Steed Malbranque picked up the ball from defence and, after exchanging passes with Jerome Bonnissel played Hayles in behind the Spurs defence.
Hayles cut the ball back and allowed Luis Boa Morte to tap the ball in from six yards out to cap a wonderful performance by the Fulham striker.
