MK Dons made the opening period of the game difficult for their Premiership opponents.
They used the wet surface to their advantage making fast interchanges across the deck and left winger Lloyd Dyer caused Paul Stalteri to have some difficult moments.
The game lost its momentum slightly before Spurs took the lead, although it didn't appear to demoralise the hosts one bit.
That all quickly changed as Tottenham extended their lead and started to boss proceedings.
Aaron Lennon's introduction midway through the second period provided a welcome attraction as Spurs maintained their composure.
Credit to MK Dons who never totally gave up.

Fourth round draw: Spurs v. Port Vale
Martin Jol: "Everyone expected us to win even though we had what happened against Grimsby at the back of our minds."
"Milton Keynes put a lot of diagonal balls into the box but we defended well and took our chances. Mido was excellent for the first goal, the second goal from Jermain was good and that made the second half easier for us and we scored two more."
"It was a professional job against a lower league club. We had to rest a few players and this team hadn't played together but after the first goal we did well in midfield, Tom Huddlestone was pulling the strings again and the second half was comfortable. In the end, 5-0 was a good result."
