Tottenham's performance warranted more goals, but chances were squandered particularly in the second half.
When Robbie Keane presented Dimitar Berbatov with a second tap-in chance of the evening the Bulgarian fluffed his lines on that occasion.
Martin Jol: "Steed Malbranque has looked fitter every week, Teemu showed great character by playing 90 minutes after being out for eight weeks, but I had confidence in him. Pascal and Aaron also came back and did well"
Jol on Berbatov: "He played for Leverkusen for five years and was a young guy when he came over, so he was a bit sensitive about this game.
"But even though he's not yet done it for us in the league, every time we play in Europe he's been outstanding."
"The only thing was he could have scored a couple more - it was a night for four or five goals, we should have scored at least two or three more but instead we made it difficult for ourselves. He said before that Juan knew him very well so I said maybe he could come up with some new tricks."
"Had they scored it would have been one of the worst draws ever because we dominated them apart from one spell."
Dimitar Berbatov: "We won and got the points to reach the second phase. That is what we wanted and we have achieved it."
"It was hard for the team but it was harder for me. I was there for almost six years and it was very flattering to have the crowd chanting my name. That was special and was why I didn't over-celebrate when I scored out of respect for the people there. But I was happy to score and do my job."
Michael Dawson: "We had chances to score more, but we won and kept a clean sheet. We're very happy and it's great that we have already qualified."
