The Spurs defender underwent surgery in both America and Australia on his ongoing groin problem which has restricted him to playing just three times this season, the last time being in the 9-1 home win against Wigan Athletic on 22nd November.
Woodgate has stayed in Australia and Redknapp has been in constant contact with the centre-back.
"He texts me all the time - he has been very low, obviously," Redknapp said.
"He is at a very low point in his life. He is stuck in a little flat somewhere and he goes to the gym all day doing his work trying to recover.
"Can you imagine what his life has been like? He has treatment all day and he is doing recovery work.
"They have kept him out there so we will have to wait and see.
"He is a great lad, a top bloke, but his problem is that nobody can get to the bottom of his injury.
"You are better off with a broken leg. Aaron Lennon had the same thing - they said he would be out for two weeks and then suddenly it is five months.
It takes time and even now he has not played 90 minutes. Woody has had a nightmare."
