Tottenham were distinctly average and with seconds left Gareth Bale managed to net his second free-kick of the night and secure a lead for the second leg in France.
Bale has netted 13 goals in just 22 Premier league games and has 17 goals in all competitions this season. Four of his last six goals have all come from distance and the brace last night showed his dead-ball ability which has been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Welshman has seven goals in his last five matches for club and country and if he continues this stunning form it?s hard to see him in a Tottenham shirt for much longer. Spanish giants Real Madrid are currently after Bale but he remains fully focused on the job at hand with Spurs.
It?s hard to see a future for Bale at Tottenham however and even if they manage to secure a Champions league spot this season I?d be surprised if he isn?t subject to a large bid this summer. Bale is under contract until 2016 but it seems very unlikely he will see out the remainder of his contract at White Hart Lane.
Although Bale is only 23, he has been a Premier league star for many seasons now and showed he can perform in Europe with fantastic displays against Inter Milan during the 2010/11 season. As he is so young he has plenty of time to develop and there is no reason why he can?t establish himself as one of the best wingers on the planet.
