Tottenham are interested in signing Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo to help ease their issues at full-back.
Spurs have been strongly linked with Norwich's Max Aarons during the January transfer window, however Barcelona themselves and RB Leipzig are believed to have joined the race for the 19-year-old's signature.
This has left Spurs scouting for possible alternatives and Portugese right-back Semedo appears to fit their brief.
According to The Mirror, Semedo could potentially be deemed surplus to requirements at Camp Nou as the Catalan giants are eager to sign Real Betis right-back Emerson, who has been capped by Brazil at only 20 years of age.
With Sergi Roberto also battling with Semedo for a place, Spurs could take the opportunity to snap up the 26-year-old as their pursuit of an alternative to Serge Aurier continues.
Tottenham have struggled in defence all season, particularly at full-back, with José Mourinho's arrival unable to turn their fortunes around at the back. The poor performances of Aurier have left the Spurs no option but to dip in to their pockets as soon as possible.
Kieran Trippier departed at the start of the season and Kyle Walker-Peters is expected to complete a loan move to Crystal Palace during the January window, all of which leaves Spurs without adequate reinforcements at right-back.
Semedo has started 11 La Liga games and four Champions League games this season for Barça, who have struggled to hit their incredibly high standards. During this time, Semedo has provided two assists and featured in five more league games from the bench.
Spurs may be set for a busy transfer window with Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen linked with moves away from north London as their contracts run down.
Eriksen in particular has been at the heart of much transfer speculation with rumours linking the Dane to Manchester United, Real Madrid and Inter, with the latter looking his most likely destination at present.
