Kevin Doyle scored for the visitors after just three minutes and thereafter Spurs dominated proceeedings but couldn't find the back of the net.
"I thought today we had loads of the ball, lots of the game," the Spurs manager told Sky Sports after the 1-0 home defeat.
"They got the early goal and then made it very difficult for us.
"They worked very hard and shut the space down. We had so much of the play but didn't create too many great chances.
"And full credit to them, it wasn't through lack of effort or anything else.
"We passed it around well, got it in good positions, but the final ball just didn't fall to us or wasn't quite good enough or we couldn't get on the end of a second ball or whatever - it just wasn't our day.
"I think teams look at us and say, 'they're a good side' and they'll come here and make it difficult for us.
"We had an amazing home record last year and anyone coming here and picking up a point, they'll be pleased with it.
"They'll make it hard for you but when you get an early goal like they did today, they obviously hung on and managed to take all three.
"But credit to them, Mick's done a terrific job with the players there. They're well organised, they defended for their lives today and they did well."
