Sheringham, who is widely expected to go straight into coaching when his playing days are up, has a one year option on his present contract which runs out at the end of this season.

Teddy told the Evening Standard: "My contract ends at the end of the season but there have been no negotiations and nothing has been talked about.

"The club have got the option to give me another year and they have until March to tell me what is happening.

Who knows whether they will offer me another year but I'm enjoying my football and I want to stay.

"I will be 37 in April but coaching is a long way off in my mind. I still want to play football for as long as I can."
