Taylor is Brum hero

Despite winning the header Kanoute was denied a goal at the end of a difficult international break for the striker.

Tottenham still haven’t won away from home since their trip to Carrow Road on Boxing Day, and that record explains why Spurs now find themselves down in ninth place in the Premiership, behind both Middlesbrough and Charlton with seven games of the campaign remaining.

Taylor managed to keep out Mali striker Fredi Kanoute and Egyptian goalscorer Mido, whose efforts late on might have counted had they not been against a keeper currently enjoying his best form of the season.

"Maik has played fantastically well recently, twice for Northern Ireland and for us on Saturday. He has produced two world-class saves one after the other," said a grateful boss Steve Bruce.

It proved an important point for City in their fight for survival, and takes the blue half of Birmingham to two games unbeaten following their victory against local rivals Aston Villa a fortnight ago.

Tottenham coach Martin Jol was left feeling slightly dispirited after missing out on capitalising more from the home win against Manchester City that had turned around three straight defeats in all competitions for the visitors.

"We don't score enough times away. We needed a second goal today.

"A lot of teams would be satisfied with a draw here, but we needed to win.

"We had two terrific chances at the end, but they also had one through Clinton Morrison, so I can live with a draw.

"But if we are to do something, we have to win games like this, although I recognise that Birmingham have been impressive at home for the last two months," said Jol.
