"Robbie was so full of determination to score and that is exactly what I want," said Jol, who had watched Spurs trail to an early James Milner long distance effort before Keane scored his first goal of the season.
"To be honest, overall I thought we looked better than Aston Villa. We had more possession and Robbie gave us that goal we needed.
"We started off a bit inconsistent and maybe you could talk about concentration but I think it was more or less because Jermaine Jenas, Teemu Tainio and Paul Stalteri were playing together for the first time. We made a mistake and suddenly we were 1-0 down.
"It was about composure and shape in midfield and we lost our shape a bit because everyone was running off trying to play and then you get a problem with counter attacks.
"The second half was the same – they always looked dangerous on the break but they were 1-0 up and it was always difficult."
Mounir El Hamdaoui joined Derby County on a three-month loan deal at the end of last week – just in time to make his home debut as a substitute in County’s 2-2 draw with Southampton.
