Striker Janssen, the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season with 27 goals, w as given permission to spend two days in London earlier this month and visited the club's training ground, meeting manager Mauricio Pochettino and discussing his plans for the future
Spurs are said to have initially offered around £11million, which has reportedly since been improved upon, but Alkmaar are holding firm for closer to their £17million valuation
Janssen - who scored a penalty for Holland in their 2-1 win at Wembley in March - has this week returned for the start of pre-season training in the Netherlands
German side Wolfsburg have also been in touch with AZ over a potential deal, and Janssen wants his situation resolved as soon as possible
In an interview with Dutch regional public broadcaster channel RTV NH, the 22-year-old admits the unwillingness of his current club to sanction the transfer to the Barclays Premier League has left him in a sense of limbo
"At the moment I'm still a bit disappointed with AZ
I'm disappointed with how they behaved
I would like to make the move," Janssen told the television station
"I have expressed my choice to the club
In my opinion, Spurs bid a high amount
"I indicated that I would take the next step and want to get away from the club
They know (this) and are aware of (the situation)
"It's a shame, I would have wished that it would go a little faster
Sure it's fine to train again
AZ is a fantastic club, but I want to make that next step for my development
"Ultimately I hope to shake people's hands here and walk out of the door on good terms."
Tottenham are aiming to reinforce their attacking options to help allieviate the pressure on main frontman Harry Kane ahead of a Champions League campaign
Pochettino has also bolstered his midfield following the signing of Victor Wanyama from his former club Southampton
Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld played alongside Wanyama at St Mary's Stadium and t he Belgian believes the Kenyan has joined a club going places
"I think he's making the right move - Spurs are on the up, we're in a good place, the new stadium is coming and we're in the Champions League," Alderweireld said on Tottenham's official website
"He is a very exciting signing for us and a very good player
He looks very strong and is a big man, but he is a very nice person, the opposite of how he is on the pitch."
