Spurs V Norwich Post Match Analysis.

Last updated : 13 September 2004 By Narcissus

For the 1st time this season, Spurs went into a match with expectations of winning it, inevitably it transpired to be a 0 – 0 draw.

Spurs started brightly enough and had several chances to open the scoring, only to be denied by a mixture of bad finishing, good goalkeeping and on one occasion the woodwork.

Norwich were largely content to play a containing game in the 1st half but Spurs did lack creativity in the attacking 3rd and were over reliant on Jermain Defoe.

Kanoute looks low on confidence and never really threatened the Norwich goal, hasn’t scored for a long time now, possibly going back to before he departed for the cup of nations last year.

On the left Atoba showed lots of tricks but no real penetration.

On the right Michael Brown won lots of possession, but couldn’t find an immediate outlet so the ball invariably ended up with Atouba via Redknapp, Although Mendes did make a few runs down the right wing.

Redknapp & Mendes more or less bossed the central midfield abetted by Brown.

The defence didn’t have much to do in the 1st half.

The 2nd half started in much the same fashion, until Brown got substituted for Simon Davies.

This turned out to be a big mistake as Simon was no where near fit and Browns presence was sorely missed.

The game was end to end now, and Norwich sensed that they could get all three points as they steadily gained control of the midfield.

Subsequent Spurs subs of JJ for Atouba & Keane for Kanoute were largley ineffective.

For Norwich it was the Darren Huckerby show, and he had several good chances to put them ahead, on one occasion he managed to get past Robinson only to be denied by a tremendous last ditch Ledley King challenge.

Fair play to the Norwich fans as they sang up for most of the time, loudest away fans so far.

For Spurs this was a reality check as although we are steadily improving, are still a long way of the finished article.

Suspect if Sean Davis was fit, would have got all three points, as the service to the strikers (Without him) was pretty poor.

Having said that Norwich desreved their bit of luck given that we had ours at Newcastle.
