The former Southampton man has returned to light training, though, and Spurs will monitor his progress before deciding whether or not to risk him in either of their next two games.
Midfielder Tom Huddlestone has been missing for almost four months with an ankle injury but hopes to return for Saturday's trip to Wigan.
