According to The Times, the Baggies are asking £6 million for the player who captained their side on several occasions last season and also earned his first England Under-21 cap in February.
The same report confirmed Spurs had increased a previous bid of £3.5 million to about £5.5 million and were waiting to hear if the improved offer was acceptable.
If Davies was to move to Tottenham he may face a short-term future similar to that of Calum Davenport who signed from Coventry City when he was the same age as Davies. The central defender made his first England Under-21 appearance shortly after the switch. Davenport went on to pick up three further caps by the time he eventually started a game for Spurs at the tail end of last season, having returned from a loan spell at Norwich City.
In his first season at White Hart Lane, Davenport made one substitute appearance in between periods on loan at West Ham United, then in the Championship, and Southampton. Veteran defender Nourredine Naybet was released by the club at the end of last season, along with Goran Bunjecevic.
