New coach Steve McClaren's first competitive match will be at Old Trafford seven days before Spurs visit in the Premiership. Three weeks into the new season it will be touch and go as to whether the club captain has recovered.
"Ledley had an operation on his cartilage. It's a big blow," Tottenham boss Martin Jol confirmed. (Daily Telegraph)
Conrad Leach wrote in The Independent: ‘Jol would dearly love to have King available for when Spurs play Manchester United on 9 September.'
Meanwhile, Spurs entertain Real Sociedad in a friendly at White Hart Lane a week on Saturday.
The Premiership champions Chelsea will be the sixth visitors to the Lane in the new league campaign, on November 5.
Jol added: "The reality is Chelsea won the title by 12 points two years ago and by seven points last season. Now they have signed Shevchenko and Ballack, I have said all along that for the next couple of years Chelsea will be the champions of England." (The Sun)
