Rennes agree deal with Tottenham for Joe Rodon loan

Rennes have agreed a deal with Tottenham to sign defender Joe Rodon on loan for the 2022/23 season, 90min understands.

The Wales international joined Spurs in 2020 having impressed at Swansea but has struggled for consistent game time in the past two seasons, making just 24 appearances.

Rennes have the option to make the loan permanent should he impress.

Rodon had been offered to Roma - currently managed by former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho - as part of Spurs' bid to sign Nicolo Zaniolo, but the Serie A side weren't interested.

Earlier on Friday, manager Antonio Conte had admitted the 24-year-old could leave with the World Cup on the horizon.

He said: "Joe Rodon is another good player and don't forget that in November there is the World Cup and many players want to play and play regularly. Also to prepare themselves for this important competition.

On this edition of Oh What a Night, 90min's Spurs podcast, Sean Walsh & Jude Summerfield look back on the friendlies versus Team K-League, Sevilla & Rangers. The guys also discuss the signings of Richarlison, Clement Lenglet & Djed Spence.

"I think that when the thoughts from the club and the players are the same we try to find the best solution for both."

Rennes will compete in the Europa League in the upcoming season after finishing fourth in Ligue 1 last time out and Rodon could act as a replacement for Nayef Aguerd, who joined West Ham for around £30m earlier in the window.
