Dominic Fifield writes in The Guardian: ‘Jol wants to retain the services of Davenport and Reid.'
Sunderland's chairman-manager Niall Quinn said: "We inquired about a couple of players at Spurs but there was nothing doing (not even a compromise deal in the form of season-long loans). Spurs rejected all our advances."
It's no real shock that Davenport is needed, and this season offers him an opportunity to rise above Anthony Gardner in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Reid on the other hand, currently sidelined with a foot injury he picked up in France this summer, was rumoured to be involved in a recent players plus cash offer to Wigan. Nothing materialised to validate suggestions the club were preparing to part company with the former Nottingham Forest wideman.
However, Andrew Dillon writes in The Sun: ‘Spurs are ready to cut a deal with Wigan for around £4.5million for (right back) Pascal Chimbonda despite Paul Jewell insisting he will not accept less than £5.25m.
The Wigan boss said: "Few people had heard of Pascal before he came to Wigan yet he's come back from the World Cup (with France) after being named in the PFA team. Spurs have just sold Carrick to Manchester United for nearly £19m after paying £3m for him."
