Two penalties from Roman Pavlyuchenko and superb goals from Rafael van der Vaart - who also missed a first half spot kick and was later sent off - and Gareth Bale enabled Spurs to seize second place in Group A behind leaders Inter Milan. But the scoreline failed to do Twente justice as the Dutch champions frequently proved a handful and were harshly treated on at least one of the three spot-kicks awarded against them.
"We picked an open team who went for it," said Redknapp. "We could have played with one up with Van der Vaart behind, but went for it and got four goals."
Nacer Chadli reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the 56th minute and there were times when Spurs looked like they might pay the price for fielding an adventurous line-up.
"It was a fantastic result," Redknapp continued. "We won 4-1 so I picked the right team. It's not a problem. You pick different teams for different games. I felt we'd take a chance but there are certain games where you wouldn't do that."
Doubts hung over the first and third spot-kicks given by referee Terje Hauge. Peter Crouch appeared to go over too easily for the first, Bale was illegally scythed down for the second while the third saw Wout Brama harshly censured for handball even though he was trying to evade Pavlyuchenko's shot.
"It was exciting stuff. The first two penalties were blatant and I don't know how you couldn't give them," said Redknapp. "Crouch was pulled down, wrestled to the floor. For the second one Bale beat the fella like he did all night and was pulled down. It was a blatant penalty.
"On the third the ball travelled a long way and it was a soft penalty but you see them given. There was nothing wrong with Van der Vaart's goal and it was a fantastic finish from Bale at the end."
Spurs are well placed in Group A with four points, but Redknapp refuses to rule Twente out of the running for qualification.
"There's still a long way to go and Twente are a good team," he said. "They showed enough against us to show they're dangerous opposition. They have a great home record."
