Redknapp has made clear his desire to bring in the former England captain on a short-term loan deal from Los Angeles Galaxy this month. The possibility of a deal would now seem to hinge on whether conditions likely to be imposed by the Major League Soccer club can be met.
Redknapp said: "It is definitely not done - one million percent not. I don't know what has happened. I have left it to the chairman to deal with."
He added: "I think we could do with his know-how, I think he has something to offer but it is out of my hands. I've said I'd like him but it is up to others now whether there is a deal to be done.
"If there is a deal to be done, I really don't know at the moment."
Beckham could potentially be available until he needs to report for pre-season training with Galaxy in March.
The 35-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder has had similar spells with AC Milan in each of the past two years.
Meanwhile, Redknapp and Beckham were at the centre of a statement issued by the Football Association on Wednesday night, denying reports that the pair have been lined up as a replacement management team for national boss Fabio Capello after Euro 2012.
An FA spokesman said: "There are no such talks and we have not discussed any potential succession plan with anyone at this point."
The report indicated FA chiefs had held "informal discussions" with 63-year-old Redknapp over becoming England boss, with 35-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Beckham his assistant, with the long-term plan for the former Manchester United star to take on the top job.
