O'Hara extends deal

Tenacious midfielder Jamie O'Hara has signed a new three year deal at the club, extending his current contract until 2011.

At the beginning of the season few would have predicted O'Hara would have any sort of role in the first team. On loan at League one side Millwall, he was completely overlooked by Martin Jol and his future at the club looked non-existent.

Accelerate to the end of the campaign and O'Hara has established himself among the first team squad. Having returned from his loan with he impressed new manager Juande Ramos with his work-rate and sweet left foot and subsequently made an impressive debut in the 1-0 away victory at Fratton Park in December.

Over the next couple of months O'Hara impressed the tottenham faithful with his tenacity and youthful enthusiasm. He managed his first Spurs goal during the home match against Slavia Prague in February and scored his first league goal against Portsmouth in March. His performances led to his first appearance for the England U-21 side in the draw against Poland.

Jamie's presence in the first team has given the midfield a fair degree of balance and he has also performed competently when deployed at left-back. Ramos' decision to offer him a new deal confirms he is part of the Spaniards plans.

O'Hara said: ""The boss is building a squad that is going to be up there challenging for honours and to be told that I am part of his long-term plans by giving me a three-year deal is good for me," O'Hara said. "I just want to keep showing him that I want to progress and become one of the top players at Tottenham.

"To have another three seasons at the club that I have always wanted to play for is great and now I just can't wait for pre-season to begin."

Although not possessing the ability to push us up into the top four (at least not yet) O'Hara's versatility and dogged determination should make him a valuable asset to the side for the next few years and news of his extend stay at White Hart Lane is a positive way to begin the summer.
