Music to Ramos' ears as Santana set to sign
According to reports in The Sun this morning, the club have signed yet another attack minded midfielder after agreeing a deal with Fiorentina for winger Mario Santana.
The 26-year-old Argentinian is reported to within days of becoming Juande Ramos' third major signing of the summer after the two clubs settled on a fee of £5m for a player who has played seven times for his country but fallen out of favour at his club.
Fiorentina's sporting director, Pantaleo Corvino, said: "We've had an offer from Tottenham who have arranged to pay 5m.
"I expect Santana to join Spurs within the next few days as he has been offered a three or four-year contract in London."
Most well known for his performances on loan at Chievo and Palermo, Santana can play on in an attacking midfielder role in the middle or on the right of midfield, but appears more comfortable playing as a winger.
The signing of Santana calls into question the mooted deal for Blackburn's David Bentley and suggest Spurs have been priced out of a move for the England midfielder. Blackburn are currently holding out for £15m and want to delay any transfers in or out of the club until their new manager is in place.
Ramos' decision to bring in yet another midfielder will surely seal the fates of fringe players such as Teemu Tainio and Hossam Ghaly and also give Aaron Lennon and Steed Malbranque cause for concern.
