Despite surrendering a 1-0 half-time lead against the Austrians, Aaron Lennon was England’s bright young thing in a side that also included Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone.
England Under-21 coach Peter Taylor had nothing but compliments for the former Leeds United star:
"Aaron is a very good player who wants to keep on improving. He was outstanding. He got the man of the match award and deserved it. The boy is a real talent and has been very bright in training.
"He is very clever and quick and when we got the ball to him in the first-half we looked like we were going to win - you would buy a season ticket to watch him, wouldn't you?"
Michael Carrick, who recovered too late from an ankle knock to join the full England squad, added his thoughts on Lennon’s contribution so far at Spurs:
"He’s been great. We’ve all been impressed by him - That pace scares defenders to death - I wouldn’t want to be a full-back facing him!
"Even if he has a quiet 10 or 15 minutes, he’s always liable to rip down the line. To be honest, it’s great to have that outlet, especially when you are in trouble. He’s come in, taken his chance and he’s been fantastic in the last few games."
