With the FA Cup fourth round ties being played this weekend both Spurs and Newcastle are without a game but Sir Bobby Robson turned down the approach because his side are in action against Bolton tonight (Wednesday), while Spurs have a free week.
"They wanted to move it to the Saturday and when we refused, they asked us why," said Robson.
"I told them it was because we were playing Bolton three days earlier and I asked them who they were playing this week. They said nobody, so I said we wouldn't be playing on Saturday.
"Tottenham aren't stupid, but I'm not either!"
