However, reports were suggesting that should he decide to change his mind on leaving Leeds then Tottenham would have first refusal on his services.
These reports have been vigorously denied by the Yorkshire side.
"We have not signed any agreement with Tottenham," a spokesman for Leeds as said.
"We were obliged to pass on the offer from Spurs but made it clear that we wanted James to stay at the club.
"We were delighted he chose to remain with us and be part of the club's future plans.
"We will be sitting down in the near future to discuss a new contract but there have been no deals with Tottenham or any other club."
