King Kaboul?

Martin Jol reckons Younes Kaboul, the French defender signed from Auxerre in the summer, can become as important to Tottenham as injured captain Ledley King. Martin Jol's words of praise comes before the North London Derby on Saturday with the beleaguered Dutchman knowing that a poor result against rivals Arsenal will almost certainly lose him his job.

Bemoaning the clubs unfortunate injuries, Jol said: "We were a bit unfortunate with injuries in the last year, we could have had more points.

""My best player, Ledley King, was out for seven or eight months", added Jol.

It is Jol's firm belief that despite the loss of King, Younes Kaboul will prove a more than capable deputy, with the impressive early form of the Frenchmen suggesting his coach may well have a point. "We have got Kaboul, he is young but he has all the potential to be like Ledley King", said Jol.

The Dutchman's praise of Kaboul comes amongst fears that Ledley King had suffered a set back in his struggle to return from injury. Last week a national newspaper reported that he would be out for a further two months but thankfully for Spurs fans, the clubs official site moved to rebuke such claims, stating that King is making good progress and is eager to get back into the fray. Despite this good news, Jol's specific praise of Kaboul could well be interpreted as a smokescreen to mask the continued absence of the clubs talismanic captain.

Meanwhile Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has moved to stoke the fires of tomorrow's match by suggesting that his team may be weary from the international break, though he expects them to be ready for the challenge, saying: ""It's a big disturbance, this interruption, and all of the players have been under big pressure with their national teams.

"But if you want to be a successful team, you have to deal with that and Tottenham have had the same problem with their players."
