The club kicked off their tour of South Africa with a 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in Durban this afternoon. The match was the first of the Vodacom Challenge friendly tournament. The match featured Dimitar Berbatov, starting a pre-season game for the first time this summer, Paul Robinson, Jermaine Jenas and Wayne Routledge, amongst a whole load of stars playing at the ABSA Stadium.
Robbie Keane opened the scoring after breaking through on goal with a superb piece of skill. Kaizer Chiefs hit back, however, when a sloppy piece of defending allowed ex-Charlton forward, and former colleague of new signing Darren Bent, to score from close range.
Martin Jol responded by throwing the aforementioned record signing on for Wayne Routledge and this had the desired effect, with the England forward showing impressive selflessness by squaring for Berbatov to tap in to restore Spurs' lead. Despite some pressure from our South African opponents, the lads held on to the win to continue our 100% record in pre-season friendlies this summer.
