Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he is looking ahead to continue managing into his 70s, speaking before facing 73-year-old Roy Hodgson (and subsequently being held to a draw).
The Portugese, 57, has turned the tide since his arrival in north London - with Tottenham fighting right at the top of the Premier League and brimming with confidence going into the festive period.
Quoted by The Guardian, Mourinho said: “I see it myself, yes, but who knows? A big friend of mine on Thursday got a job in the Portuguese Premier League at the age of 74 [Jesualdo Ferreira at Boavista]. He is a fantastic coach, incredible knowledge, incredible passion."Under the three-time Premier League winner, Spurs have developed a winning mentality like rarely before, heading into the weekend top of the table after almost a dozen games.
Mourinho added: "Maybe you are tired of me because I’m here for 20 years, since 2000 when I got my first job [at Benfica], but the reality is that at the age of 57, for the job, for the nature of the job, I am very young.”
In his first full season at the club, he's instilled a new identity into the Spurs team that was missing under Mauricio Pochettino - a resilience that has the club on course for silverware, something the club haven't tasted in a while.
Speaking on the progress his side have made, Mourinho said: “We are improving as a team, that is not in doubt. The concept of what the team needs and the type of mentality we need in the team, which is something I have been very, very clear about, we are improving step by step.”
