Jol on the Pompey migrants

Pedro Mendes, Sean Davis and Noe Pamarot all joined Portsmouth from Spurs last season. Former club captain Sol Campbell also joined the south coast club in the summer from Arsenal.

Portsmouth have only suffered one defeat in the league so far this season, against Bolton on Monday night.

Spurs boss Martin Jol said: “Everybody knew I rated Pedro Mendes highly, but we had Michael Carrick who was performing well for us at the time. I always knew he was a very good player but he wanted to play.

"With Sean Davis it was a little bit different, he suffered with injuries during his time here and had a knee problem, but the longer he has played the better he's got.”

"Noe Pamarot was on the bench against Bolton on Monday. He was out for almost a year after his cruciate ligament injury.”

Robbie Keane, who opened his goalscoring account for Spurs in the 1-0 UEFA Cup first round second leg win against Slavia Prague on Thursday, said: "Pompey have started the season on fire although they lost to Bolton."

Jermaine Jenas, who had scored the only goal in the first leg in the Czech Republic, said: "Portsmouth being right up there has possibly surprised a few people. They've invested some money in experienced players and have deserved to be there."
