"Everyone knows that Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane are similar players so I have to make a decision because we started them together five or six times last season. Last year I made a choice for Robbie and then everyone was shouting for Jermain. If Robbie's on the bench and he's happy and comes on and scores like he did against Villa, everything is okay," said Jol.
"In England, 80 per cent of chances are created by flank play and by crosses and they are not the best to be on the end of a cross. They are goalscorers, both are good in the box and on the final ball but we need a target man in there and Robbie and Jermain are not target men," he added.
