Not wishing to unsettle his current first choice starting XI however, Head Coach Martin Jol included Jenas in the same four-man midfield that began at Charlton two weeks prior – and it proved to be an inspired decision.
Jol said: "Jermaine needs confidence as he's a young player. All my players are playing with confidence and if there is a lack of it we'll build them up.
"I took him off at Charlton and brought Tainio on and he did the same job. He's another very good player and they will have to fight for their place."
Jenas said: "I have always said I want to score a lot more goals and, now I've got the first one, I can go on and hopefully score some more goals for Spurs."
Meanwhile, should Edgar Davids pick up a yellow card at Manchester United this Saturday, the Dutchman would miss the north London derby at White Hart Lane.
