Jermaine Jenas has been told in no uncertain terms that if he fails to hit the target regularly his place in the starting line-up will be in jeopardy.
He was unable to recapture his scoring form at Newcastle United since he knocked in seven during the 2002/3 season.
"At Newcastle I played in a number of different roles and had one good goalscoring season that I have been desperate to get back to and repeat," he said.
After five starts for Tottenham without scoring he did manage to pop up with two goals in the next two games, one of them from a set piece that rescued a point from the trip to Old Trafford a fortnight ago.
"The two goals I've got here already have been great for me and I'm getting into positions in front of goal now where I feel like I'm going to score. I've just got to keep gambling, take a few shots here and there and hopefully they will keep going in for me.
The 22-year-old came extremely close to extending that ratio when his sweetly struck shot on target against Arsenal was denied.
"If he had scored, it would have been three goals for us in three games. That is the second nature you need. It’s all about a winning mentality," said Head Coach Martin Jol.
Jol added: "I told Jermaine and Michael Carrick that Arsenal was their best performance together. Okay, it’s only been a few games but still, they are young players. Carrick is getting better and better and he knows his strengths and weaknesses. I thought he almost played the perfect game."
