Hoddle has been charged with improper conduct for comments he made regarding the Hampshire officials decision to award Birmingham a controversial penalty in the opening game of the season at St. Andrews back in August.

Spurs defedner Anthony Gardner was adjudged by Styles to have fouled Birmingham midfielder Robbie Savage in the penalty area and David Dunn scored from the resulting spot-kick to give the hosts a 1-0 victory.

"I don't think this referee should have been in charge of the game today," the Spurs boss said after the game on August 16th.

"He had a big problem with Birmingham and you could tell that he was affected by that. From the first minute I knew it would go against us.

"The last place he should be officiating on the first day of the season is St Andrews and that is why we lost today."
