Thatcher played in the Spurs side defeated 3-2 at home by Liverpool on Sunday and Hoddle was pleased with the defenders contribution.
"I spoke to Ben a couple of months ago now about his situation, his future, what he's got to improve on to get into the team and into the squad and they've reported that as if I haven't spoken to him for two months. It's pathetic," Hoddle told the club's official website, www.spurs.co.uk
"Of course we've been speaking - every day. If people want to put a spin on it and turn it upside down it's out of my control.
"Ben's attitude has been excellent. He's played for the reserves and encouraged the youngsters and that is excellent.
"He came in today against high-class opposition and did very well. He lacks a bit of fitness at the moment at this level but both him and Ledley King did very well.
