It was reported in The Sun this morning that Poyet was close to agreeing to replace Kevin Keegan at St. James' Park but the Uruguayan insists he is more than happy to stay in North London.
Poyet told The Telegraph: ""It's very clear that it's nothing at all," he said. "I'm very happy here. I've had almost a year back at the club with Juande and (Spurs coach) Marcos (Alvarez).
"This is just speculation and it's all too easy because of my relationship with Dennis Wise. It's nothing to worry about and all I intend to do is relax and continue with my job.
Gus rebuttal of Newcastle's interest in him will come as welcome relief for everyone at White Hart Lane. Gus' light hearted nature has maintained spirits in the dressing room during a difficult period for the club and Juande Ramos would be loathe to lose a key member of his backroom staff little over a week after selling Dimitar Berbatov.
Gus is also a popular figure with the fans and would, given time, be in the running to take over as head coach at the club if the position was to come available. At the moment, however, it is nice to know he is fully loyal to the cause, even if some of our ex-players were not.
