The former German international told the Evening Standard: "The knee is fine but I picked up a small muscle problem against Southampton.
It did not seem like a big problem but the next day I was in a lot of pain.
"It is a small tear on the hamstring. I'm bit down because I had waited a long time to come back.
Sometimes you have to cope with down periods before you can get back."
