There was a year-and-a-half between the two visits to Chelsea, each under a different coach. And although a point was taken at Chelsea under Jacques Santini in 2004, the belief shown by Spurs that they could become the first side to beat the Premiership champions at their home in the league this season highlighted the improvement under Martin Jol.
Carrick said: "The squad has grown up together in the last year, two years. We had the beating of them (Chelsea) in the second half. We took the game to them and believed we could win. It showed how much we have come on as a team."
