Jenas who wasn’t named among the substitutes against Austria at the weekend told the Sunday Mirror: "It's nice to play in a team with a lot of English lads. The abundance of good young English players we have can only benefit us in the long run.
"I think if you look at Chelsea and the success they've had with people like John Terry and Frank Lampard, it's important to have that English core.
"English players know what this league is all about, whereas sometimes it's more difficult for foreign players to understand it all."
Dutchman Jol accepts that Jenas has areas of his game which need improving, but the quick transformation of the Stamford Bridge pair is a big inspiration for player and coach alike.
"I gave Jenas a compliment in training the other day because he was shouting at his team-mates - that is what we need. If you play in that position, you have to coach the other players," Jol said.
Club captain Ledley King told the Daily Mail: "'JJ has been doing well so far this season. The manager has been looking to him to push on a bit more and Michael Carrick has been holding back."
