Stewart Downing will ask Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate why he wasn't informed of any recent bid from Spurs.
The White Hart Lane club are hoping that could lead to Downing handing in a transfer request, igniting any chance of pulling off the transfer before Thursday's transfer deadline. Otherwise Downing will see events through the eyes of Boro chief executive Keith Lamb who is critical of Tottenham's approaches for the winger.
