Jol in yesterday’s Sun newspaper said: "His all-round game is improving and you can't take his finishing ability away from him."
Defoe opened his account for the season as Spurs started off the campaign with a 2-0 win at Portsmouth on Saturday. He also scored twice against Portuguese champions FC Porto a week earlier.
The Tottenham coach reckoned Defoe’s goal highlights ‘the difference between a player like him and other players’.
"For a forward to score a goal in the first game is great for confidence," said Defoe afterwards.
He is being strongly tipped to start in Copenhagen for England tomorrow night in what will be a preparation for the World Cup qualifier against Wales next month, in which Michael Owen is suspended.
Defoe in today’s Sun newspaper said: "Michael Owen is a natural goalscorer and people have said the same about me. I don’t feel I have to put pressure on him, though. I feel sharp and I just have to focus on my own game and hope it’s good enough."
