The England international forward, who has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, expects to return to first team training this week and be fit and available for slection for Spurs' next match against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
"It was nothing major, I just pulled up in training," Defoe said on Sky Sports' programme 'Goals on Sunday'.
"When I first did it, I thought it was bad. When I do get little knocks I tend to recover really quickly.
"I was running the next day, which was a good sign, and it's really good.
"I think I will train tomorrow and I'll play next week definitely."
