Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has injured an ankle during the club's warm-weather training camp in Dubai. The 28-year-old, who missed eight weeks with ankle ligament damage earlier this season, broke down during a session in Al Ahli's Rashid Stadium on Sunday.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is already missing six key players through injury.
"Defoe has an injury again," Redknapp told Dubai newspaper The National. "He's had a problem with his ankle before and it didn't feel too good."
It is unclear how long Defoe will be out of action for, but Spurs will hope the England international has not suffered a recurrence of the problem that sidelined him following his country's 3-1 win over Switzerland in September.
Defoe, who started for Spurs in the recent 3-1 away defeat at Blackpool, is yet to score in the Premier League this season but news of his injury is still a blow to Redknapp due to the fact that he is already without several first-team regulars.
"We're trying to finish in the top four and it's so close. But we've got so many players injured, people forget," added Redknapp.
"We've got Tom Huddlestone, Younes Kaboul, Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart.
"If you could pick a team of injured players it would be a fantastic team."
Spurs face Wolves at Molineux on Sunday 6 March, before facing AC Milan in the Champions League on 9 March at White Hart Lane, having won the first-leg tie 1-0 at the San Siro.
