Reflecting on the Premiership defeat against Arsenal at the start of December, Michael Dawson said: "I actually thought we were holding our own but then we gave a bad goal away and the game went away from us.
"We've had to take that defeat on the chin. To lose to our rivals like that was hard to take. It hurt the lads."
Martin Jol is pleased the team has shown signs of increased strength lately, despite only taking two points from 12 in recent league encounters. He said: "We have made a little step forward by drawing three recent away games and conceding just two goals - one of them a penalty and the other a deflected goal against Portsmouth.
"We have had different people taking corners and free-kicks as we don't have a real specialist. Jermaine Jenas has done well in the past."
