Although Everton continued to find points hard to come on their visit to White Hart Lane, Jol described David Moyes’ Blues as a very organised outfit. The key to the victory in the Dutchman’s eyes was finding the right time to score while avoiding overexposure at the back.
He said: "We needed to score a goal so we had to stay organised ourselves, play in their half and be patient in not losing the ball and not try to force things.
Spurs have benefitted from a more mature approach in games this season, which Jol puts down to the winning mentality of fellow countryman Edgar Davids.
"Every time he plays he gives me a good feeling because he wins a lot of balls and shows great mental strength. That was maybe one of the things last season that wasn’t 100% and we’ve improved on that," Jol added.
