Tottenham's Harry Redknapp says Luka Modric didn't want to play against Manchester City as he looks to push through a move to Chelsea. The Croatia international has been a target for the Blues all summer, with the west London outfit seeing two bids for the playmaker turned down by Spurs. The Blues are reportedly ready to stump up nearly ?40million in their quest to sign Modric, with the 25-year-old thought to be desperate to move to Stamford Bridge. Redknapp has now revealed Modric asked not to play in Tottenham's 5-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday for fear of picking up an injury and thus wrecking any potential move to Chelsea. Redknapp told The Sun: "Luka came to me at 11.30am and said to me, 'I don't feel my head is right today'."I said, 'I feel you need to play today, Luka. I need you to play. You need to come and play'."I told him we had injuries and I said, 'I need you to come and play. We need you on the pitch, get out and play'. I told him he was our main man."Redknapp added: "I'm sure he is getting advised to maybe not play today. We have seen it with other clubs."The transfer window shuts on Wednesday night and Chelsea could still miss out on Modric if Tottenham continue to stand firm over their star man.
