Less than 48 hours after England's travelling supporters were singing 'What a load of rubbish' after the team's latest disappointing performance, Steve McClaren asserted reports of a rift between himself and Wayne Rooney was a 'load of rubbish'.
He said: "What happens in the dressing room is private and I don't discuss that. But a rift between me and Wayne Rooney is absolutely ridiculous.
"People are just trying to disturb things and we are angry and disappointed (by it). If it's true then you can accept it, but it's an absolute load of rubbish. The belief and togetherness of the squad and the staff has never been better.
