Nicholson won the league and cup double in 1961, and his team successfully defended the FA Cup the following year and triumphed in the European Cup-Winners' Cup in 1964.
He followed that with another FA Cup win in 1967, the Football League Cup in both 1971 and 1973 and the UEFA Cup of 1972.
Under his tutelage Spurs become the first club to achieve the double in the 20th century, the first to win the League Cup twice, the first British club to win a European trophy and, with a UEFA Cup victory in 1972, the first British team to win two different European competitions.
He began his 18 year playing career in 1936 & went on to manage them in 1958.
A “One Club” club man had no ambitions for anything that was not related to Spurs & was still residing
As one would expect also served his country during WWII with the Durham Light Infantry even though some footballers managed to avoid it.
Having seen him supporting the team several times in the west stand, was pretty obvious that although at times disappointed with our efforts his passion for all things Spurs burnt as fiercely as ever.
At least the boys “Put On A Show” for his benefit match a couple of years ago and he was a very happy man that night.
Sad day for us as the “Old School” on which we were nurtured such as Bill & Brian Clough seem to be slipping away, only to be replaced by a legion of sterile grey suits.
Heartfelt condolences to his wife & family from all Spurs fans.
