The Spaniard is accused by Tottenham of "attempting to unsettle" Jermain Defoe, but Benitez claimed: "If you read in the papers last month you can see who first started talking about (Djibril) Cissé. The problem is I have a good memory and he (Spurs Chairman, Daniel Levy) cannot remember when he talked with agents about these things."
The Liverpool striker's agent claimed that Spurs had been in contact on January 31st, which didn't provide enough time to work out a loan deal for the rest of the season.
